By: Stephanie and Nick
to make an extremely long story short, me and nick were never supposed to meet.
he was an RM, i was a freshman.
I was old and she was .... well young-er I was not that young.
Anyways, we had both sworn each other off.
But to clarify how this all worked out. I had just gradutated from institute the semester before but knew that I should still take a class to keep myself grounded. So about 3 weeks into the semester I saw one of my institute teachers from previous semesters and asked what classes he had. I had no idea who was in these classes til after I had signed up. But was pleasently surprised when I walked in and saw Stephanie.
I knew she was in my institute class, but one day I took my position at the back of ECON like I normally did and sat down, but, noticed this beautiful girl on the front row. I was feeling bold that day or drank some good water or something but changed seats 10 rows up and sat down next to her. I said, “ Hi I’m Nick, your in my institute class right?”
And in my brain I was all, “oh gosh, this kid is trying to make conversation with me. What do I do??” because, frankly, cute & bold boys scare me. So, playing the “cool” card I was all, “yeah.”
That was the our first technical meeting. The first time we really met was in our institute class.
Our teacher had asked us to draw a picture of our future families, so we did. Intricate pictures including, but not limited to: # of children, genders of children, names, family activities, where we'd be living, etc.
to break the ice, I leaned over to her and said, "hey, steph show me your family."
so i did. i walked over to his table and showed it to him. he laughed at me. i was taken aback; nobody laughs at my future family and gets away with it! then, he showed me his, and it was exactly the same as mine. genders... kids.... stuff. relive the moment here.
We looked at each other awkwardly, did the nervous “hehe, okayyyyy…see ya….” Thing, and went back to our seats.
and that's how we met! ensign-worthy, no?
I actually tried for a while to get her information from off of the class list. I kinda sorta failed a little bit because I still had to be a man and get her number in real life. So I did and tried a couple times to invite her to play soccer. I had the feeling that she was just not that into me. But along came Halloween night. "Usually" young adults in Cedar City go to firesides and then play games on Sunday nights so I assumed she would be doing the same, yet I saw her on facebook. So I asked her why she wasn't playing games.
I had no idea what he was talking about, and had no real interest in talking to him and his crazy game night ideas. I was tired, I was in my pajamas, and there was no way some kid in my institute class was going to take me away from my blanket.
I didn't know that so I was a little persistent and kept asking her to come play games with me until she said maybe. That was enough for me to call her. :)
he actually called me! my mouth said sure while my head was screaming what the heck are you doing. i didn't even have the smidgen of an idea about who this guy was. all i knew is that he was cute, he was an RM, and he wanted me to come play games with him and his friends.
I was way excited to hang out with her and at least get to know her a little more because of her amazing comments and how nice she was in institute class. So I asked her where she lived. This is when I found she lived in freshmen dorms….. I thought she might’ve been an RA.
He didn’t know what i was. I got in the car and he was like, “so.. freshmen dorms, huh?” and I was all, “yeah, I’m a freshman.” And he was like “cool.” he laughed.
I don’t mind freshmen, but I’m just not a fan of dating them. But I thought it was worth it to at least get to know her some. But honestly I had a blast with her and we had some really mature conversations….. and she’s gorgeous….. so yeah that too.
I have to admit, he was pretty cool. He made the point of mentioning that everyone in the room was over the age of 21. That made me wonder just how old he thought I was. He thought I was 20, but then he found out I was a freshman. It happens all the time! But I really did enjoy my time with him. he was pleasantly perfect in every way, and he wooed me with his ukulele playing skills. i was hooked people, hooked.
A couple days went by and I asked her to come out to lunch with me after ECON. We shared a sandwich and salad and talked for about 2 hours before she had to leave. But it was so engaging and fun. I really wanted to hang out with her more. So I did. I wanted that to happen permanently. So it will.
