status: married and loving it

so, remember how i was going to update on conference weekend? like, over a week ago?
i forgot my laptop when we drove home. not wanting to drive another hour and a half to go get it, i just said, "pass."
but, now that i'm sitting at the U and waiting for nick to get out of his class, i have oodles of time to catch up, which i'm so grateful for.

so the biggest thing that's happened recently is: i work at Primary Children's Medical Center now!
what happened was: i was already working for Intermountain Healthcare when this job opened up. i applied, and walah i now have a fantastic job at PC. i work Monday-Friday 3:30pm to 9:00 pm, which is perfect because now i can go to school at the U next semester and still work part time. wonderful!

other than that, me and nick went shopping last week {finally!!}
we've been living off of top ramen and leftover wedding cake for the past little while.
but we made our way to costco and bought some nummy foods to eat.

our apartment is FINALLY looking like an apartment instead of a storage container.

still a work in progress, but a work nonetheless! i wasn't feeling good one day, so i fell asleep on the couch. when i woke up, the entertainment center was put together and set up. what a guy!
oh, and we have surround sound. who would have thought?

so, about le honeymoon.
we started off sunday afternoon and we thought we'd make it to reno by the time we were sleepy.
oh boy were we wrong!
it turns out that there was a gigantic snow storm blocking our path.
so instead of stopping in lovelock, NV {which is the dumpiest town on the face of the planet, mind you}
we stopped in fernley. what's a fernley?
monday we made our way up to donner pass and got stuck for 6 hours before we made it through.
something about chain control, which we didn't have anyways. it was just dumb.
so we ate wheat thins and nick threw snowballs.

i'm obviously trying to block it from my brain.
anyways, that night we headed to bodega bay and stayed in a giant room right on the water.
i snagged this picture as nick so lovingly serenaded the ocean.

did i mention that it was raining/snowing pretty consistently up to this point?
we had two large suitcases burrito'd in a tarp in the bed of the truck.

fancy, eh?

needless to say, our things kept getting wet.

that day we also headed up to the coast and the redwoods.

we had lunch on lucas wharf

and then visited his friends in santa rosa.
that night we stayed in a creepy days inn that reminded me of the haunted mansion.
wednesday we spent the day in.... san francisco.

we hit up ghirardelli square and bought an awesome cookbook and the giantest cookie that tasted so good.
we had lunch on fisherman's wharf and ate sourdough and clam chowder.
we witnessed first-hand the famous bushman of san francisco.
also, when we got back to the car, the meter only had 1 minute left on it. when i went to take a picture of it, it changed to zero. we're so lucky!

that night we headed to pismo beach.

for a little us time at sunset.

we stayed at the cutest hotel that night. it's called the sandcastle inn, and it's the cutest thing i've ever seen. except for nick.

that day we just drove down the coast until we got to the newport area, bought a big bucket of KFC and locked ourselves in the hotel room until the next day when we went to... DISNEYLAND!

we didn't take the camera with us when we went because 1. we didn't want to lose it 2. we didn't want to carry it and 3. all we wanted to bring was nick's wallet.
but we had such a great time!
as soon as we got in, i took nick on california screamin', my favorite ride in california adventure park.
then we bought these beauties:

and wore them ALL. DAY. LONG.
we did everything we wanted to, and ended the day with the new World of Color show.
honestly the most spectacular thing i've ever seen at a disney park.
it's like the bellagio on steroids, with a movie playing and lots of music.
you can't even describe it's beauty and amazement.
i cried, it was so good.
also, it was very romantic.
we were so tired when we got back to the apartment that we don't even remember falling asleep.
but it was such a good day.
the next day we headed back to cedar city for an open house.

the sad part is, i was sick for pretty much our entire honeymoon.
i was in so much pain that sometimes i couldn't think straight.
so on the way to cedar we had to stop at the ihc instacare and make me better.
but i got even more sick on sunday, so instead of going home sunday afternoon i fell asleep from about 4 to 9, and we opted to leave monday morning.
nick took care of me all night while i drifted in and out of consciousness.
he's the best husband ever.

so, that was our honeymoon :)
pretty awesome, i say!

a funny thing nick did when we got home..
we had the top tier of our wedding cake leftover, and this is how my dear husband ate it:

so it would "still look pretty"

oh man.

me and nick, even though we've been married for a little less than a month, have already been through thick and thin together.
on march 31 he rear-ended a motorcycle going 3 mph.
nothing was wrong with the 2 people on the bike.
the only thing wrong with the bike was the license plate was bent, a light was cracked, and when the bike fell over little pieces of the gear shifters broke off.
that was it.
the guy was furious, he called an ambulance, a tow truck, you name it.
made a big hissy fit and threw a tantrum.
nick was devastated.
we had no idea if the insurance would cover it because he's married.
so we called the guy and asked if we could "settle out of court" so it wouldn't affect our insurance. we guessed it wouldn't be more than 500 for all the repairs and whatnot.
he called us the next day and told us that the estimated cost for all the repairs and their "chiropractor visits" blah blah blah would be at LEAST 2500.
are you joking me? we don't make that much in 3 months.
so, for a lack of better words, we were screwed.
but, god loves us and everything worked out.
we were covered by insurance and everything was great.
except then we had to pay rent.
we had about 500 dollars in cash from the wedding, zero in the bank, and our rent was close to 630.
somehow we made it work.
then nick got his VA check and everything was even better than good.
:) somehow everything worked out and we couldn't be happier.

can i just say, that being married it possibly the best thing that's ever happened to me in my life. in fact, it is.
waking up every morning to the man that i love more than anything in this world, never having to leave and "go back home" like i used to when we were engaged, going grocery shopping, spending our gift cards at bed bath & beyond, having date nights and watching pirates marathons while eating rumbi grill, it's absolutely the best. even when we do nothing, i'm the happiest person in the world. granted, sometimes we have our disagreements and tensions rise, but we always make peace and make up with a kiss and a hug.

we even had our married friends over for dinner the other night.
i felt so bad because we told rachael and drew to come over at 6:30 ish for dinner, and because nick had the car all day and it was pouring, i didn't get to the store to get the things i needed, so we got back from walmart around 6:45, and we didn't eat until almost 8.
we all were starving, i know i know. and i feel really bad for my off-timing.
but dinner was great and it's so awesome to have such great friends living so close.

we went to our new ward for the first time yesterday, that was an adventure.
it's a backwards ward, so it goes: relief society, sunday school, sacrament meeting.
awkward.
we introduced ourselves in every class, and at the end of sacrament meeting a couple introduced themselves to us, and i found out that her name is stephanie and she works at primary children's too. her husband is now my husband's home teaching buddy.
look at that, instant friends.

for dinner last night, we had no idea what we wanted.
oh, and we thought it was easter yesterday!
so i was all depressed that we didn't have any special dinner or any easter basket treats or anything like that.
but it turns out it isn't for another couple of weeks.
shows you how much we don't pay attention!
anyways, so we made tin foil dinner {again}, jello with coolwhip, and snicker's salad.
it was such a good dinner!
oh my goodness.
and it was fun to make a delicious meal with my husband again.
it's such a thrill.
being married is AWESOME.

anyways, i love my nick and i keep learning to love him more and more every day.
hopefully we get internet soon so i can put up cute stories about us and the nice things he does for me.

but for now, this will do.
