xo, lauren

good morning my fellow americans. & a happy monday.
today i am pleased to announce the summer love list from dear Lauren at peace love lauren. she is one my favorites & quite a lovely girl if i do say so myself. plus, they've just announced something HUGE and i couldn't be more excited for them! scream! someday, maybe, i'll be as cool & as gorgeous as she is. but until then....

10 things i love about summer

1. i love playing with our nieces & nephews outside in the sunshine! we love blowing bubbles, rolling in grass, and licking melty popsicles.
2. i love warmth. i love getting into my oven of a car when it's been left in the Costco parking lot for hours. it's pure bliss baby.
3. i love smelling like chlorine. growing up as a swimmer all my life, swimming pools just hit home for me!
4. i love blowing on every dandelion i see and making the same wish each time.
5. i love doing the No Pants Dance with that husband of mine.
6. i love making out on a park bench (with that husband of mine).
7. i love that little rexburg comes alive when the sun is out and about.
8. i love celebrating both of our birthdays & anniversary
9. i love sitting on the porch & eating mac-n-cheese
10. i love leaving all of the doors & windows in our apartment wide wide open.

xo lauren

my favorite summer memories involve porches in one way or another. eating a popsicle, eating a salad, eating a burger, listening to music, waiting for a friend... such wonderful times on porches. thanks again lauren! you're just wonderful!

tips for your senior pictures

i've been doing senior pictures lately & doing a ton of research. during this time, i can't help but reflect upon my own experience & the silliness of it all, what went wrong & what kinda sorta went right to produce that.
(thanks Laura for working your magic to make my quirky self look presentable! you're the best!)
& here's what i came up with:

DON'T get your hair cut the day before your pictures. you will not know how to style it & it will be stick straight where it should be flowy. get it cut 2 weeks or more in advance, just in case. don't try anything crazy or new either. trust me.

DO get your locks updated. fill in those roots (i wish i would have thought about that back then), wash & style it. possibly even invest in a hot oil treatment or something of the sorts so your hair will be sleek & shiny.

DON'T fret about zits or blemishes on your face. i'm not going to explicitly tell you what sorts of infestations came upon my face on this day, but i will tell you that i caked on the makeup & i wish i hadn't.

DO NOT cake on the makeup. it is easier to take away blemishes than to take away lots of makeup in photoshop. you want your face to look fresh & fine, not cakey & crappy.

DO wear nice makeup! invest in fake eyelashes if you so choose. wear what you normally wear, but pump it up just a bit (i emphasize just a bit because you musn't over-do it) to make it special. trust me, these pictures will be your "senior pictures" for, like, the rest of your life. you want to look nice.

DO pluck, shave & wax whatever needs be. eyebrows, lips, armpits, hairy moles, just get it off. it's so very noticeable in photos & is difficult to remove in photoshop. & yes, peach fuzz is sort of noticeable-- but it's your call. alos, lay off sodium & carbs for a few days before your pictures & drink lots of water-- that will reduce water retention & make you (at least your face) thinner & more fit.

DON'T cry over what you're going to wear. i know it's sort of a big deal to wear cute clothes, but if you're literally crying over it then just give up. have your mother or your best friend pick out something nice. you can never go wrong with a simple t-shirt & jeans, & that is FACT.

DO schedule your shoot more than a month before your graduation. i had mine scheduled for the day of our "senior sluff day" where we went up to a resort in the mountains & played outside all day. then i came home & had my pictures taken-- and it was a few days before graduation. DON'T do that.

& lastly, PLEASE DON'T be afraid of the camera. so what if some lady your mother knows from your childhood is holding a huge camera in your face & telling you to smile? OWN IT. work that updo. no deer in the headlights or "aw, but i don't like my smile. i don't like posing. i don't like blah blah blah i feel weird!" if you act uptight or nervous in your shoot, it will definitely show in your pictures. photographers are there to make you look so good, all you have to do it give them something to work with. otherwise you'll be looking at the final product and be all, "geez, these are ... how awkward am i? mom, do i really look this dorky all of the time?" do it for you.

this is all from my own experience on the "other side of the lens" as i would put it. & since i've seen both sides of that lens, i can tell you all of it my tips are true. so good luck & have FUN!

love, nicole

this is Nicole- we'll call her Nic. she tells her tale over at Living with Fletch. & she just got MARRIED! *aww* her and her hubster goes to ASU, and boy are they just fabulous. i love working with her & am so thrilled to share with you the things she loves about summer on this day. i mean, look at her?!

9. Scholarships Applications - time to apply, CHA-CHING!
10. Blogs - more time to read side by side survival guide and dink around on other fabulous blogs
11. Flowers - because i am a cheater

thanks nic! my favorite part about this is getting in a burning hot car.. i always love doing that after going swimming and just sit enjoying the warmth. and eating ice cream.

alright guys, have a great friday. if you're looking for a date night, i suggest Settebello Pizzaria & Gellateria in Salt Lake City.

hey Miki!

today's list comes from dearest Miki from Becoming What I Always Was. if you haven't seen her blog, do it now. she's so fun & is always updating. my kind of lady!

...

I seriously love me some summer. I am so excited that it is quickly approaching, I can tell because Utah weather is crazy during the spring. It is 81 degrees one day and 59 the next day (today and yesterday).

When summer arrives it feels like the whole city opens their doors. Do you know that feeling I am talking about where all the sudden you start hearing from your friends again, asking you to go out and planning fun weekend vacations just to get out. I am getting a little antsy just talking about it!

My husband and I actually created a summer bucket list this year with the top things we want to do this summer, that I am going to share with you. Some items are a little far fetched, but we will try and make them happen! I plan for this list to make it to my own blog one day, but that hasn't happened just yet.

Jared and Miki's Summer Bucket List:
  • Go to Lake Powell !!! (If you've never been it's a must - it's like the grand canyon filled with water.)
  • Go on a hike/Backpacking trip through Zions.
  • Go camping up the canyon with friends or stay at an HOA
  • Go to at least 2 of the twilight summer concerts ( Salt Lake hosts free concerts every Thursday during the summer, they get crazy crowded and super fun)
  • Go Nighttime Urban Spelunking ( I think my husband made this word up, but he wants to go through houses that aren't built yet and explore)
  • Go Mini Golfing
  • Get a Tattoo
  • Go to a Water park
  • Go Bungee Jumping or Sky Diving
  • Go to the Fair and go on all the rides
  • Watch the Sunrise from a roof top
  • Go on a weekend road Trip
  • Go to a Drive-in Movie
  • Go to the SLC art festival
  • Look for really cheap round trip flights and spend the weekend in a random city we’ve never been to before
  • Go to Wyoming and go River Rafting

Jared and I Braving the waters on Green River last summer

It's only 16 items, and so I am really hoping this summer we can complete them all, because that would seriously be awesome. Maybe with some we can even hit two birds with one stone... like sky dive into a drive in movie.. yeah that sounds awesome!

...

thanks, deary! i just might have to steal a few of these ideas for myself. they're great! like a backpacking trip through Zions? did you know that you can start a backpacking trip in Kolob canyon & make your way down through Zions? i know that's on my life bucket list! three cheers for Miki & three cheers for summer! hip hip!

late nights.

oh, you know, just hangin out in the architecture building.
happy finals week!

all i ever want

{via}

is THAT.
a small space to call our own. our puppy. bare feet. plants in the window & something tasty to eat.
i want lots of light & little children everywhere.
...

last night i was a freak mess. everyone is having babies while my body is anti-making babies which makes me cry and cry watching Rango.
"niiiiick, the froggy died (insert sobbing here) why did the george lopez frog die?"
"he's destroying the whole town." (sob)
"nick, is rango going to be okay? i don't want him to die. (more sobbing) is the snake going to eat him?"
"where is all the water? they're all going to die. (soft cry)

apparently i have a problem with fictional characters dying. maybe that's why i never accepted bambi as a real disney movie & perhaps explains why i never got over the fact that i killed a cat when i was a kid. (don't ask.)(alliteration?)

all of the sudden you're swamped with a to-do list, it's finals week so you never see your husband, the car you've been using dies, your school won't process your financial aid or your transfer credit and you have no idea what you're doing. some days you just have to cry.

but life is beautiful & we move on, with dreams of spaghetti-o's & hope for the future.
here's to a better today, every day.

"You decide every moment of every day who you are and what you believe in. You get a second chance, every second."

what amy loves about summer

hey. this is amy from Amy and the City. she pretty much is awesome, in case you were wondering. but then again, who DON'T i feature that isn't awesome sauce?
anyways, the city they live in is Melbourne. wait, you don't know where Melbourne is? i'll give you a hint: right now she's getting ready for winter... on a side note, to say i'm jealous of their location would be quite the understatement. someday i'm going to move out of utah, oh just you WAIT! italy here i come!

friends, if you're aching for a bit of lovely & goodness, then head on over to Amy & the City for a sweet treat.

& here's her summer list!

1. Being able to stay out late at night and have it still be warm
2. Ice cream  - need I say more?!
3. Wearing shorts again
4. Days lounging around at the beach
5. Experimenting with making different flavored popsicles
6. Feeling warm and sunny!
7. Packing away the boots and bringing out the sandals and flip flops
8. Summer storms cooling the weather down on hot days
9. Summer holidays
10. Spring flowers blooming!

"2. Ice cream - need I say more?!" non! i'm convinced that ice cream is the whole reason for the summer season. i'll take it any way i can get it. my favorite are the Drumstick Ice Cream Cones with fudge in them. there is nothing more, to me, that screams summer than one of those melting on your hand & on your face. you know?

anyways. holla to 80 degree weather, homies!

if you need me, i'll be outside.. tanning.....

my sister

during editing, i had to share-- my sister is amazingly beautiful.
just so you know.

salt lake city date!

city creek? AMAZING.

juicy berry at the Gateway? splendid! (i got pink grapefruit w/ kiwi & blackberries as well as NY cheese cake w/graham cracker & chocolate. nick got raspberry pomegranate w/ every fruit available. um, YUM!?)

& the hunger games? well, it was exactly as i imagined it, with a side of sobbing every 2 minutes because i'm hormonal. & the whole hype with peeta being amazing or something?
pffft, i've got my own peeta at home.

hope you guys have a beautiful weekend!

it's thursday

want to have a great Thursday?! here's what you do:

1. make fresh, homemade banana bread
2. take your husband & get gelato at the market.
3. come home & watch Thursday night on NBC
4. wear pajamas & eat noodle bowls & much on banana bread all night.

snowcones!

this is the beautiful Julia Barger who will be speaking to us today. she is lovely, & blogs over at Writer's Block Near You. if you like beautiful pictures, family & fun then this is the place for you. seriously, check out her list & her blog, i promise you won't be disappointed!

1. Garage Sales. I LOVE grabbing my bike, cruising the town, and hunting for that perfect item. (And yes, I'm THAT person. The one with the fanny pack and the basket on their bike. It's how I roll.)
2. SNOW CONES. (Tigers Blood is my weakness!)
3. The green-ness of everything. It's refreshing.
4. Wake-boarding! My parents have a boat, soooo pretty much every hot day we have we hit the lake and break out the wake-board. Good times. (Also good wipe outs.)
5. I love the bright colors Spring and Summer brings. The yellows and pinks and blues. They just make me happy! (Plus they make the paleness that is my skin look....not so pale.)
6. Camping...who doesn't love that??
7. Mine and my husbands Anniversary. :) Yay for celebrations.
8. Biking...the town I live in is fairly small so when the weather is nice, I like to bike every where I can.
9. 4th of July! Every 4th of July my husband's family (extended and all) throw a HUGE party/firework show and our whole church comes out. It's a blast. Literally. Yup. I went there.
10. Homemade ice-cream. (Technically, this could take every spot on the list. I couldn't probably live off of it actually.)

thanks Jules!! i love LOVE this whole list. another point for snow cones! camping is also one of my favorite parts of summer. love love love it. thanks again!

oh, look, i'm eating more food.

arby's in American Fork, pizza pie cafe in Highland (yes folks, that is peach cobbler, raspberry & cookie dough pizza) & baskin robbins in Salt Lake.

that's what we've been up to for the past few weeks! food, food & more food. we also drove my mom's spyder eclipse, went to a wedding, babysat my parents' dogs, ate stuffed crust pizza, did an easter egg hunt, got new shoes, checked out a house for sale, saw old friends, went on lots of dates, went shopping at costco,
played with meg at the bijou market & she showed me frozen yogurt at Menchie's for the first time EVER (i had grapefruit sorbet(?) with blackberries & kiwi. where has this been my whole life?

& then we settled down for a little nap afterwards.

umm.. cute!

Oh, hi. My name is Kelsey Keller Weller. I know, it's such a poetic name. What can I say, I guess I married well. I blog over at A Little Bird Told Me. Don't you just love Steph? Sheesh, she's a babe. I ran across her blog and instantly fell in love. Plus her hair rocks. Enough said. (aw,.. i'm blushing over here.)

Stephanie asked me to share ten things about spring/summer that make me ridiculously happy. It made me cringe having to narrow it down to ten, because there are just oh so many. (sorry about that!) So here are ten out of about a hundred on my list:

1. Painting the town red on my razor scooter. (jealous! i love scooters)
2. My diet consisting of ice cream, smoothies, otter pops, and fruit. It's fine. My doctor says my blood sugar is excellent. (me too! & my dentist advised me not to eat those things, and then i have had no cavities for a whole year. suck it, dentist!)
3. Going to as many rodeos as possible and, in the process, convincing myself I'm a cowgirl. (never been! i'm lame.)
4. Sleeping outside beneath a blanket of stars.

5. Hiking. Lots and lots of hiking. And enjoying the view when I get to the top. It always reminds me of how small I am and how incredible this earth is. (how about we all hike timp together this summer? raise yo hands, foos.)
6. Reading books to my little heart's content. Books I actually want to read, so absolutely no textbooks included.

7. Jumping into bodies of water. Whether I'm in a bathing suit, fully clothed, or not clothed at all. . .it's always an adrenaline rush.

8. Fireworks. Fireworks make me squeal with delight. Like, really, you would think I am five years old. (my FAVORITE part of summer. favorite. ever. all the time.)
9. Going for long runs at dusk time.

10. Telling scary stories around the campfire. And cooking dinner on that same campfire.

I guess I'm adding a bonus, but I'm also ridiculously happy and excited to celebrate one year of marriage to Mr. BWell this August. I hope everyone has fun celebrating countless things this spring and summer. After all, it is the perfect time to celebrate!
(totally counts!)

I felt like commenting on everything she said, just because she's practically amazing. i just about die every time i look at her hair & her clothes KILL ME DEAD.  1 year of marriage? woop woop! congrats & thanks for sharing your list, Kels! you rock my freaking socks off!

alyssa's favorite things

today's bout of goodness is brought to you by the letter A.
her name is Alyssa. what is her blog, you ask? Sincerely, Smeda.
her & her hubster Chris are having a baby boy, like, any second now! *in chorus* awww!
they are just oh-so-cute -- her scavenger hunt she did for Chris is just SO COOL, i might steal her idea.
& i love imagining what it will be like when nick's finishing school & we have a bebe on the way.. but the chance of us being pregs right now is about the same as it looking/feeling like spring halfway through April in Utah. geez. moving on.
here's her wonderful list of things to look forward to after may:

{via}
ten things i love about spring/summer time:

1. NO SNOW! Winter + Idaho = very cold winters.  < pffft. it snowed 3 inches a few days before my high school graduation-- which was at the end of May. BOOOO utah!
2. Flip flop tan lines =)
3. Ice cream, popsicles & slurpees!
4. Picnics at the park.
5. Green grass & pretty flowers.
6. Going for walks.
7. Summer vacations.
8. The beach & swimming.
9. Clothes. Spring & summer time always has the cutest!
10. Sunshine = happiness.
i'm going to add a #11 in there, and it says "a cute little boy for the summer that i can dress him in cute clothes & pinch his cheeks & give him all the kisses in the world- and have him come along on these new adventures & i don't have to be pregnant during the hot summer months!"
thanks alyssa! good luck with baby boy & i hope all goes well for mommy & daddy!
i was waiting for snow cones to come up on that list ;) haha, oh i'm just kidding. but really.
can i tell you guys a secret? i have never tanned my feet. ever. she said she loves flip-flop tanlines? i can tan every part of my body EXCEPT my feet, no matter how hard i try...  they just remain pasty white all. the. time. i can't even remember a time when i had flip flop tanlines. i thought i had some once, and then i realized it was just dirt. oh well. maybe this summer!
cheers, little ones. & _____ friday the 13th.
p.s. any of you going to the bijou market tomorrow? if so, perhaps we will see you there.

summer - the vivian way

today's list is from vivian. HI VIVIAN! *i may or may not have a slight girl crush on her.
she blogs over at Vivian Eileen, and you should probably check out her "about me" page first to look at the picture of her and her husband on their wedding day. swoon.
anyways, she's cool and has a cat and is all sorts of crafty. jealous.
& here she goes!

10 things I love about spring and summer:
1. Starburst jelly beans. Seriously, those things are like crack to me.  And when the weather's a little warmer my crack becomes SNOW CONES! Yum! Tiger's Blood please.
2. Sunshine and longer days.
3. Trips to visit family and camping with my husband.  Both of us are done with school and just working,  but it still seems the only time we're both able to take off work is in the summer.
4. Bike rides.  This is my favorite thing to do on Sunday afternoons with my husband.
5. Baby animals. My husband makes fun of me for this, but I looove seeing all the baby ducks during spring.
6. Blossoms on trees, and flowers everywhere.
7. Frozen yogurt! I like to put a little of everything on mine, but my favorite topping is those tiny gummy bears.
8. Fresh corn on the cob and tomatoes from the garden.  I dream of the day when I can buy corn on the cob for just 25 cents a cob.  It is so good!  And garden tomatoes means homemade salsa!
9. Swimming.
10. My birthday! It's June 23rd and I think it's the best time to have a birthday.  It's almost exactly halfway in the year from Christmas, and I have never been at school on my birthday.

girl! i agree with the snow cones 4000%. i worked at a pool concession stand one summer & we got free snow cones whenever we wanted. tiger's blood always stained my hands but it was so worth it. i got to eat one almost every day! woooo. & corn on the cob? KILL ME. *in the best way possible.
my favorite way to eat corn on the cob is with grilled chicken, potato salad & fresh cut pineapple. talk about good summer BBQ! geez, get out. i'm over this office with no windows. GIVE ME SUMMER.

anyways, thanks VIV! you ROCK.

ciao bebes!

what Jennie loves about summer

Jennie with her radical friends on the 4th of July last year

this is one of the most hilarious people ever. her name is Jennie & she blogs over at Oh... This is Awkward.
seriously, go check it out. you will laugh & pee.
sometimes we even play "draw something" together, and i always get a good laugh out of her drawings. WHAT WHAT.
& this is what she loves most about summer.
1. The fact that I don't have to wear pant is reason numero uno that I love summer. In fact, pants offend my legs and I will wear dresses and skirts instead. Sometimes I just don't feel like wearing pants in the wintertime, so I try wearing a dress, and that never works out too well for me.

2. Sandals! I love the idea of not wearing shoes! They don't offend me like pants do, but man, I love wearing sandals. This winter I went from wearing Uggs to wearing sandals overnight and I haven't looked back since.

3. One of my very favorite perfumes, Ralph Lauren Cool, reminds me of summer and I only wear it when I'm feeling summery. You can bet your buttons that I am wearing that perfume at this very moment, in my skirt and sandals.

4. Not wearing make up! Okay, let's be real here, I don't really wear much make up anyway, because I am lazy. But now that summer's here, it becomes more socially acceptable and I just roll with it.

5. Okay, this one is going to be a little bit weird, but I start listening to Christmas music during the summer. It makes me excited for Christmas time, because that is my very favorite time of the year! I spend about 85% of my year wishing it was Christmas time, and June is when Christmas-sickness begins. Now, if we could have Christmas in the summer time, man, I would never want it to be any other months!

6. Popsicles! By no means am I a health nut, but I only eat the 100% fruit popsicles by Dreyer. They're kind of expensive, but they are so much better for you and I just want to eat them always. Oh, we'll add Skinny Cow truffle-y ice creams too, because I am pretty sure I could just eat those two things, plus tater tots, and I would be good for a couple solid months.

7. I grew up right next to a river and a lake, along with some grandparents who had a huge pool. AKA I used to be a fish. My family used to own a boat, which was so much fun! Last summer we went jet skiing on the lake and I am pretty sure that that was the most fun I had in all of 2011......no kiddin'.

8. Tanning. This one is more of a wish I have every summer rather than something I look forward to. Moving on.

9. This summer, my family gets to be visiting me for a couple week! I haven't seen them since December and since I'm limited to seeing them only three times a year {summer, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) nowadays, this is something that is pretty exciting for me. I probably should have put this one higher than #9. Ehhh.

10. Up until last year, I sort of thought that the Fourth of July was incredibly lame. Turns out that it is just my family who celebrates it lamely, and last year since I celebrated it with my best friends, IT WAS A BLAST! I'm planning on making it un-lame again this year too. {Sorry, Dad.}

thanks Jennie! you rule. literally.
are you all laughing? i know i am. because summer is great & so is she.

& how about you guys? what are you so unbelievably excited for? any special plans this summer? fill me in!

FFFFAAAAACCCCCCCCCCTTTTTT.

fact: i love new blog designs & designing them. old, used blog designs make me feel like cringing- like "it's last day of girl's camp and i can't wait to take a shower" "i took a bite out of that bagel before i realized it was moldy" "the sound of corn starch" "ugh i just saw that guy pick his nose & eat it at the stoplight" kind of cringe.
fact: i like being by myself. apparently when i was little i could play Barbies for hours without anyone around. i can still entertain my mind with little things. i guess i'm a slight introvert.. but we already knew that!
fact: i filled up my computer's hard drive with pictures & font downloads & music... so i had to transfer my old photos onto CD's, and i still only have around 6 GB of unused space left. uhhh....
fact: when i get hungry i feel like i'm going to throw up. almost to the point of high-tailing it to the bathroom. i don't know if that's healthy... does anyone else get that?
fact: i do not like following rules. you know?
fact: i did some dishes last night.. and today.. and i even did laundry.. #progress.
fact: i'm not even that big of a tweeter yet i feel the urge to #hashtag constantly.
fact: i'm a perfectionist. which isn't good.
fact: i'm obsessed with photography everything. you name it, i love it.
fact: i want to move to boston. or philadelphia. or anywhere in pennsylvania. or DC. or canada? how about seattle? oregon? south carolina. i just need to get out!
fact: i think i might be a hypochondriac. (is that a sign of hypochondria?)
fact: i watched Dumb & Dumber so much as a child that i have the entire thing memorized. YEAH, I KNOW.
fact: i still bite my nails. & pull at the skin around it. & make them bleed. & gross people out, probably. and I can't stop because i wasn't blessed with slender fingers or nails so when i paint them they look like coins. so i don't.
fact: i'm allergic to dust. & dogs. & cats. & grass. & flowers. & trees. & fruits & vegetables. basically i'm a mess when it comes to spring/summer/fall allergies and i should just lock myself in the house all day.
fact: if i had a choice, i would have skinny jeans in every color & that's all i would wear every day. i work at a job where i have to wear "business casual" which means NO JEANS EVER. it hurts my soul!
fact: i do not like justin bieber. i do not like GLEE.
fact: how to lose a guy in 10 days is one of my favorite movies EVER. i want to be her... you know, marry matthew mcconaughey, work for a magazine, have great hair all the time.. haha, wiiiink
fact: my favorite thing about growing up is knowing who my real friends are: the ones that no matter how long we haven't talked or haven't seen each other, i know that they're always there for me and whenever i DO see them it's like we pick up right where we left off. i love that.
fact: i have a secret desire to live like the amish: no computers, no cell phones, no tv. just some good wholesome movies. i want a small, cozy house with exposed brick in a neighborhood where my closest neighbor is a 5 minute walk away. wood floors. lots of babies. lots of windows. a playhouse in the backyard & a grove of trees just behind that. two big dogs & my family.
fact: when i graduate.. i'm traveling the world.
